As of May 12, 2023, laboratories and providers are no longer required to report individual cases or deaths of COVID-19 to state or local health departments. COVID-19 case and death data is no longer updated on the NC DHHS dashboard.

For specific questions related to COVID-19 and your personal health, please consult with your primary care doctor.

North Carolina has a strong respiratory disease surveillance network. Indicators that provide timely data for public health action will continue to be updated weekly on the NC DHHS dashboard, including:

  • Syndromic surveillance data through NC DETECT
  • Sentinel surveillance through the hospital-based public health epidemiologist network
  • Wastewater surveillance

These systems will be used to continue to monitor trends in COVID-19 moving forward.

Additionally, state level vital records data for COVID-19-associated deaths will continue to be available through the National Center for Health Statistics and posted on the NC DHHS dashboard monthly.
