National Work Zone Awareness Week

Post Date:04/15/2024 8:27 AM

280x200-CCspot-WorkZoneAwarenessIn 2021, there were 29 fatalities, 2,500 injuries and 6,200 crashes in roadway work zones throughout North Carolina. To help improve safety for everyone who shares the roadway, public agencies throughout the country are sharing helpful tips throughout National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 15-19).

Work zones are not limited to highways and interstates. Here in Union County, work zones are just as likely to be found on two lane roads and neighborhood streets. When you approach a work zone, remember these safety tips:

  • Pay attention.
  • Reduce your speed.
  • Don’t rush through the area or tailgate the driver in front of you, who likely has a better view of what’s ahead than you do.
  • Expect the unexpected. Keep an eye out for workers and their equipment.

“Union County Water crews often work in or near the roadway as they make repairs to infrastructure,” said Mike Farrar, Health and Safety Program Manager for Union County Water. “We ask all residents to slow down and proceed with caution as they approach and drive through work zones, so our employees can do their work safely and efficiently.”
